Middlesex Central CT Chapter American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Description:
The Middlesex Central CT Chapter of the American Red Cross helps to keep families safe at home, work, and play, by offering training in CPR, First Aid, CT Child Care, Babysitting, Pet First Aid, Water Safety, and AED training in the work place.
Our chapter is one piece of a nationwide rapid-response, disaster relief network. We train volunteers to aid the victims of disaster such as fire and weather related disasters.
Our chapter is a main link between members of the military and their families here at home.
Our chapter works with homeless families in a very unique manner, affording them a safe place to live, guiding them with job skills, life skills and other basic needs.
Our Chapter provides the volunteers to staff blood drives, greeting and registering donors, escorting, observing, and serving at the canteen.
Our chapter also has a transportation department enabling seniors and special needs individuals who reside in Middletown, Middlefield, Durham, Portland, and East Hampton, to have rides to medical and social appointments.
We are partners with other agencies, of Amazing Grace, the food pantry for Middletown residents.
Through our chapter, volunteers from each town in Middlesex County attend their local blood drives insuring that each donor has a smooth and pleasant visit. Volunteers register, escort and observe the donors. There is an ongoing need for volunteers in every town in Middlesex County. The blood drives last approximately 5 1/2 hours. Contributors of refreshments are always welcome at the blood drives for the donors.
History:
The Middlesex Central CT Chapter was originally chartered as The Middlesex County Chapter on October 19, 1914 and in March of 2002 gained its new name upon merging with the New Britain office of the American Red Cross. The charter authorizes the chapter to deliver Red Cross chapter services and meet corporate obligations, within its assigned jurisdiction, consistent with the mission and goals of the American Red Cross and the policies and regulations of the Board of Governors.
