The Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc. (ECSI) has been a private, non-profit Community Resource for Seniors (Older Americans) for 30 years. Created by and for seniors, our services are focused on the nine-town Estuary region of the Connecticut Shoreline covering Chester, Clinton, Essex, Deep River, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook. Services include hot lunch Cafes in five towns (breakfast is also available in Old Saybrook Monday-Saturday)as well as Meals on Wheels for the homebound; and medical transportation; benefits and preventative health programs and counseling; exercise classes; recreational, social, and educational activities; support groups; and one of the best Thrift Shops on the shoreline. Many of our activities and positions are staffed by volunteers;(welcome desk, meal preparation and service, drivers, thrift shop, and more)... and we are always looking for new volunteers as well as people to utilize our services!

History:
The Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc. (ECSI) history began three decades ago. Following passage of the 1965 Older American Act, area senior clubs agreed to participate in a new organization, The Estuary Council of Senior Clubs, Inc. After receiving a grant in 1975, by-laws were adopted, officers were elected, and a local census and survey were conducted that remain the basis for many programs provided today. On March 25, 1975, Monica Eggert was hired as the first director, serving until 1992.

During 1980, the Estuary Council moved from the Essex Town Hall into the American Legion Hall in Clinton. On May 26, 1993, the current site was officially opened in Old Saybrook, located off Main Street with beautiful views of North Cove.

On May 18, 2005 ECSI celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and expansion of the Old Saybrook site; funded by a grant from the CT Small Cities Program. Our programs and activities continue to expand with seniors, intergenerational programs, and community events. ECSI is an active senior center and resource!
