Middlesex Hospital

Middlesex Hospital is a not-for-profit corporation committed to providing selected high quality inpatient and outpatient health-care services. The Hospital will maintain formal relationships with specialized providers to assure coordination of care when services are not locally available.

Description:
Middlesex Hospital is part of the Middlesex Health System, an independent, non-profit, community-based health network of inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, emergency and rehabilitation facilities. In addition to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut, Middlesex Health System has medical centers in Essex and Marlborough. It serves more than 250,000 residents in Middlesex County and beyond, and is the first hospital in Connecticut to have earned the national Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence.

History:
Middlesex Hospital treated its first patient on May 23, 1904, when a quarry worker in Portland, Connecticut, badly mangled his leg in a quarry accident. Newspapers credited the new hospital with saving his life. This year marks the hospital's centennial celebration as it continues to provide premier medical resources for the greater Middlesex County.
