FDNH's mission is to equip our students with the attitude, skills and experiences to graduate from college and to positively impact their community – as a means to the long term goal of ensuring that any child who is born in or moves to Dorchester will be guaranteed a life of boundless opportunity.

Description:
Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, Inc. (FDNH) provides educational opportunities at all levels beginning with young children, moving to address issues affecting youth and proceeding to adult education. These services provide the necessary skills to improve academic achievement and the quality of life for Dorchester’s residents. FDNH’s place-based education model focuses on critical developmental periods and junctures in the lives of its students through four programmatic areas: Early Education, Out of School Time, Adolescent Development, and Alternative and Adult Education. In each program, FDNH provides vital educational services that lay the foundation for future academic, economic and social success.

History:
Since 1965, FDNH has provided services designed to meet its community’s needs, yet to create systemic and sustainable change the organization must do more. Despite years of solid programming, many children and families in Dorchester are still without real opportunities for a successful life. FDNH believes that the only way to end the cycles of poverty and violence that plague a neighborhood is to increase the quality of educational opportunities available to its residents. In an effort to make sustainable change, FDNH has redefined its mission – to equip our students with the attitude, skills and experiences to graduate from college and to positively impact their community – as a means to the long term goal of ensuring that any child who is born in or moves to Dorchester will be guaranteed a life of boundless opportunity.
