LUK Mentoring

LUK Inc. Mentoring Program pairs caring, concerned role models with youth who will benefit from additional support. Mentors are volunteers who care about helping young people achieve their potential and discover their strengths. By sharing fun activities and exposing a youth to new experiences, a mentor encourages positive choices, promotes high self-esteem, supports academic achievement and introduces the youth to new ideas.

Description:
LUK Community-based Mentoring: Mentors commit to spending a minimum of one hour per week with a youth for one year. "Matches" spend time together in their community doing a variety of activities from fun to educational. LUK Mentors complete an interview, background/reference checks and mentor training. Volunteer mentors must be at least 18. A valid drivers license and vehicle is required.

Mentoring Children of Prisoners: Funded by the Federal Department of Health & Human Services, this program matches youth ages 4 to 18 who have an incarcerated parent/guardian. Eligible youth living in Central Massachusetts may be referred through their school, youth serving agency or parent request.

Youth living in Central Massachusetts who would like to participate in the mentoring program may also be referred by their Department of Children & Families social worker.

History:
It's all about FRIENDSHIP. Mentoring is about being there to listen objectively, help put things in perspective, sharing successes and supporting a youth in tough times. Most of all, mentoring is about positively impacting a young person's life by developing a long lasting friendship.
