Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Become a Reading Specialist tutor with the Family Care Network, Inc. (FCNI), a local nonprofit agency serving foster youths and families. This opportunity asks for a minimum 1-year commitment and that volunteers be willing to meet twice a week for an hour each meeting.



Volunteers applying to be a Reading Specialist with FCNI should have a passion for reading and reading instruction, be willing to follow prescribed methodology, be compassionate to kids who are struggling academically and understand the culture of failure, be enthusiastic and encouraging, and appreciate small successes.



This opportunity offers a mileage reimbursement rate for volunteers who travel outside of their city, throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties. Volunteers will receive approximately 30 hours of initial training and continual trainings every six months. Volunteers will be required to report to Program Staff at least once a month and submit monthly logs of contacts and trainings.
