Boys & Girls Club Of Cypress
Agency Details:
To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Description:
Today, over 600 youth between the ages of 6 and 18 participate in the Club's programs. The Club is open each day after school from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and during the summer months from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Free membership is provided to children of military personnel. Although the Club is affordable to most families, at only $5 per day during the school year, scholarships are offered for no-cost services to children whose families cannot afford to pay fees. The Club has a policy to ensure that no child is turned away due to the inability of their family to pay fees.
We also have a second location at Swain Elementary, a local elementary school. Currently, we serve 100 children daily at this site.
The Club accommodates families by providing transportation to children who attend nine local elementary schools. The club also provides daily round trip transportation to children living in five of the motels on Lincoln Avenue (where entire families reside in one small room with all their worldly possessions.)
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES...
The Club offers academic support during the school year, providing daily homework help, tutoring and literacy skill enhancement programs. Club staff and volunteers receive training to help youth stay on task, develop better study skills, and do better in school. Club members are rewarded for regular attendance in the homework club and prizes are given to those who can document letter-grade improvements in test scores and report cards.
The recreational program is geared to ensure that activities are diverse and attractive to members. The Club offers an array of activities that cover the five core program categories identified as being the most beneficial to youth by our national organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Those core program categories are:
- Character and Leadership Development
- The Arts
