Individual Food Drives Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 20, 2009

Giving Children Hope's "We've Got Your Back" program provides backpacks full of nutritious food for Orange County children that have been identified as having food insecurity. Students who are reliant upon free or reduced lunch programs for consistent meals are enrolled in a Nutrition Club and learn about healthy eating. Backpacks are filled and sent home with an underprivileged child so that they will have food for the weekend.

We serve over 300 local elementary students each year with that amount growing.

If you would like to host a food drive, please contact Elizabeth Saldana, the "We've Got Your Back" Program Coordinator to get detailed information.

Most needed food drive items:

  • Whole Grain, Lox Sugar Cereals (Kix, Honey Bunches of Oats,
Corn Flakes, Mini Wheats, Cheerios)
  • Cans of fruit cocktail mix
  • Granola bars or Trail mix bars
  • Canned Chicken Soup
  • Canned Beans
  • Rice
  • 100% Fruit Juice (Apple, Grape, Cranberry)
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Spaghetti

Thank you for your interest in hosting a food drive!
