Description:
The Diversity Council is a small, community focused, community led, volunteer supported organization working to create an inclusive and welcoming community through education. Our educational efforts focus on the whole person, stressing that we are all 'different' in some ways, but our differences are far outweighed in number and importance by our similarities. We educate the about benefits of embracing all forms of diversity in creating a more productive workforce, better schools and a better community and we collaborate with diverse groups serving children and adults in the minority and majority communities.

History:
In 1989, we were founded by the leadership of the Rochester Public Schools in response to increasing racial prejudice in the schools. The school brought in partners from business, government, and the community to address this community-wide issue. In 1996, the Prejudice Reduction Workshops began, reaching 300 students. In 2000, the Prejudice Reduction Workshops reached more than 10,000 students. 2004 marks our 15th anniversary. The Diversity Council was selected as 1 of 3 finalists for a state anti-racism award. Our strategic plans focus on developing new programs for a wider clientele, improve the efficiency of our organization, and measure and communicate the impact of our programs more effectively.
