Seasons Hospice provides care and comfort through the end of life. Hospice affirms and cherishes life, helping each person to live each day to the fullest extent possible.

Description:
Seasons Hospice is a community based non-profit organization providing specialized care to persons living with terminal illness. Hospice offers support and comfort care to those living with terminal illness and their families when a traditional medical approach is no longer appropriate.

Seasons hospice affirms each person's right to participate fully in planning for where and how hospice care will be delivered. Our philosophy is that dying can be accepted as a unique part of life.
The Seasons Hospice staff includes a team of trained health professionals and community volunteers. An individualized plan of care is tailored to meet the needs of each hospice patient and their family. Emphasis is given to controlling pain and other physical symptoms, as well as attending to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs.

History:
Seasons Hospice began as a small part of a home health care agency. In its early days, Seasons partnered with a group of hospice volunteers to provided services in the Saint Charles area. This small operation allowed Seasons to gain Medicare certification and test the waters of hospice in the area. Eventually, Seasons moved their office and center of the service area to Rochester. Seasons Hospice now provides hospice care in Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Winona, Wabasha and Mower counties. There is a staff of 40 with approximately 80 volunteers. In 2003, Seasons Hospice provided care for more than 200 persons. Since hospice care includes grief and bereavement care for the family of the patient, the Seasons hospice family included over 600 persons during that year.

The Hospice House was a private home built in 1952-1954 by the Dr. Edmond Donoghue family. It is a unique structure designed in the prairie style by Jan Ruhtenberg, a student of Mies van de Rohe. Seasons Hospice purchased the home in February of 2000. The home has eight private rooms with many common areas. Seasons Hospice was the first Medicare certified free-standing hospice facility in the state of Minnesota. Located on approximately 13 acres with a southern exposure and many large windows, the Hospice House provides a setting of tranquility and serenity to be enjoyed by the patients, families and visitors.
