Docents are an integral part of the Rochester Art Center’s educational programming. From Free Thursday Art for Lunch tours to guides for special events and groups, docents provide visitors with insight and background behind the Art Center’s diverse exhibitions and programs. An interest and background in the arts or education preferred but not required.

The Rochester Art Center offers an intensive 6-month training program and ongoing training with each exhibition cycle that provides an overview of modern and contemporary art history, teaching methods and public speaking.

AGE OF VOLUNTEER: 21 and older. COMMITMENT: 6-8 hours per month. Docents must commit to one year of participation and lead a minimum of two tours per month. DAY OF WEEK: flexible, Tuesday - Sunday. TIME OF DAY: flexible, 10 am - 5 pm, some evening hours. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This comprehensive Docent Program is designed for volunteers with enthusiasm and support of the Rochester Art Center’s artistic mission and vision. Required training includes, three, two-hour training sessions for new docents and a four-hour training session every two months for all docents to learn about new exhibitions.

Directions:
 From Highway 52: Take the Second Street SW exit, head east. Proceed on Second Street until it comes to a T intersection at Civic Center Drive. The Art Center is directly in front of you, accessible via the circle drive of the Mayo Civic Center. Parking Meters: Meters are enforced 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except major holidays. Meters are not enforced after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays or on Saturdays or Sundays. Free Parking: Park free in any city ramp on weekdays after 5:00 p.m. and until 1:00 a.m. and weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.. The Civic Center ramp is across from the Art Center accessible from First Avenue SE.
