Volunteer Actors Needed

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on May 29, 2009

We are partnering with The Rochester Civic Theater to recruit adults to act in the Touch (elementary schools) and No Easy Answers (middle school) programs. These programs demonstrate the differences between nurturing and exploitive touch with simple, age appropriate scenarios. Victim Service Advocates assist the actors by providing moderation for the programs.

No acting experience is necessary! This is an excellent opportunity to contribute in the prevention of sexual violence.

We are especially in need of male volunteers but actors of either gender are gladly accepted. Performances begin at 9:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and last from one to two hours depending on the program and the audience.

AGE OF VOLUNTEER: 16 and older. COMMITMENT: One to three hours a week. DAY OF WEEK: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. TIME OF DAY: 9:30 a.m.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Some of the characters in these skits are teenagers...so we are looking for actors and actresses who can easily appear and act like teenagers or young adults for a few of these specific roles!

Wonderful people, wonderful experience
I have gained so much by volunteering. The staff at Victim Services is just wonderful. They are some of the most understanding and positive people I have came across in Rochester. You do have to train for 40+ hours, but it is worth it. You get to learn a lot about sexual assault as well as community resources. You get to volunteer from home as well. I have had nothing but a wonderful experience...it is challenging work emotionally, but it is worth it to help someone in need.
