Community-based mental health center seeks Recreational Assistants. Volunteer would interact with clients of both the Intensive Residential Services and Recovery Programs units. Hours are varied and flexibility is possible. Recreational Assistants provide companionship and social interaction with clients. They ease the stress of isolation and teach clients appropriate social boundaries. Often Recreational Assistants accompany staff on recreational outings with clients. Events can range from shopping at the Mall of America to bowling or movies.

AGE OF VOLUNTEER: 18 and older. COMMITMENT: 2 to 6 hours per week. DAY OF WEEK: flexible, varies. TIME OF DAY: Mostly evenings and weekends. One opportunity for mornings M-F from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT(S): Volunteers are provided with an agency orientation that covers agency rules, issues of confidentiality and HIPAA. Program staff assist volunteer with brief client specific training.
