The Mission of Omaha Children’s Museum is to engage the imagination and create excitement about learning.

Description:
Omaha Children's Museum welcomes service organizations, student groups, retired educators, students involved in a class project, civic minded individuals and those interested in giving of their time to make a difference in the life of a young child.

Volunteer opportunities are available during weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings. Scheduling is flexible.

History:
Omaha Children's Museum began its operations in 1976 out of the back of a station wagon, delivering workshops and programs to thousands of area children. In 1977, the articles of incorporation were filed and, shortly thereafter, the museum found its first home in the City/County connector building. Later, the museum moved to the corner of 18th and St. Mary's. The museum moved to its permanent home, the former McFayden Ford building, in 1989 and has been located on 20th and Howard Streets in downtown Omaha ever since. A series of renovations then took place, one in 1993 and, most recently, the second floor addition in 2002, which made the facility one of the largest children's museums in the country.

Since its inception in 1976, Omaha Children's Museum has been a special place where children can challenge themselves, discover how the world works and learn through play. The museum can now boast a repaired and painted building, an 11,000-square-foot second floor open for traveling exhibits, increased donor support through programs like the Welcome Fund and Sponsor of the Month, addition to Rainbow Farm and the Charlie Campbell Science and Technology Center and an ever-growing number of patrons. In fact, in 2008 visitation increased to over 263,000 and membership grew to over 6,600 member families.
