To establish, maintain, and implement programs for the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the land and water resources of Palm Beach County.
Description:
The Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) works to promote a quality environment for the residents of and visitors to Palm Beach County. ERM programs include mosquito control, wetland restoration, sea turtle monitoring, beach renourishment, artificial reef creation, land development monitoring, natural areas acquisition and management, vegetation salvage, and petroleum storage tank compliance.
History:
In 1987 Palm Beach County passed the Wellfield Protection and Sea Turtle Protection ordinances. Acknowledging the need for an agency that would have the expertise to administer these environmental programs, the Board of County Commissioners created the Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) on October 1, 1987. Today ERM administers eighteen environmental programs and employs over 100 people.
