The Buttonwood Park Zoological Society understands the important role a dynamic and community-oriented zoo can play in a region. The BPZS garners support for the zoo to provide the highest quality educational programs and family events to enrich the life of our community.
Description:
The Buttonwood Park Zoological Society is a private, nonprofit charity that funds educational programs and family events at Buttonwood Park Zoo. The BPZS is responsible for the operation of the cafe, gift store, train rides, pony rides, memberships, marketing, special events, fund raising and grantwriting at the zoo. All the proceeds from the BPZS's activities are used to support the zoo.
History:
The Buttonwood Park Zoological Society was formed in 1968 to increase community involvement and support for the zoo. In the mid-1990s the BPZS was very active in saving the zoo and assisting in its revitalization. In 2003, the zoo achieved accreditation by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, which called us "one of the finest small zoos in the United States."
