Agency Details:
Creative Reuse Pittsburgh
Mission: To awaken creativeness, amplify environmental awareness, and foster community through individual and group interactions with re-used materials.
Description:
Every day, local companies send tons of materials to the landfill that are perfect for creative uses. Creative Reuse Pittsburgh is a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council and is working to establish a new nonprofit organization promoting the creative reuse of manufacturing odds ‘n ends and business discards. We collect these materials before they hit the dumpster, and use them in hands-on creativity events, including art workshops, community activities, parties, and at schools and festivals. We're following the successful model of similar organizations in other cities. In addition to hands-on creativity events, we'll operate a center that will serve as a hub of activity focused on creative applications of reusable waste generated in the region. It will include a store, workshop, gallery space, and resource area/library.
History:
Creative Reuse Pittsburgh started collecting materials from businesses in the Pittsburgh area in October 2007 and held it's first public event as part of First Night 2008.
