Volunteers, and the contributions they make through volunteering, significantly enhance the quality of life, community spirit and leisure time opportunities in our Centers. Volunteers are a valuable human resource requiring support and encouragement to develop their skills and ensure their continued involvement. Volunteer Services are an intergral part of the total program of Kane Centers functioning as Centers Health Care team.
Description:
Our Long Term Care Facilities are located in four locations, so our residents are able to choose to be close to their family and friends. Our Centers are in Ross Twp., North Hills, Glen Hazel, McKeesport, and Scott Twp. Volunteers may go on community outings to different field trips,help with landscaping/maintaining our strolling garden, a volunteer may be a companion to a resident that does not receive visitors, MAKE NEW FRIENDS!! Some residents like help doing their laundry, laundry facilities are located throughout the buildings, assist with special events!! Help esscorting residents to their favorite activities. Help with writing letters for residents who are unable. MANY, MANY, HELPFUL & GREAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE!!
History:
Although Kane is observing its 45th year, Allegheny County's commitment to our long term care residents dates back over 150 years. The original "County Home" was founded 1852 at Woodville. Kane, named for the man who served as chairman of the Allegheny County Board of Commissioners from 1936 to 1960. Kane represented the hopes and dreams of people striving for over a century to provide care and assistance to those unable to help themselves. In 1958 Kane opened its doors to such accolades as "the world's finest hospitals for the long term care."
