Turtle Creek Valley Mental Health/Mental Retardation, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency which strives to meet the needs of the community in mental health therapy and treatment, mental retardation services and activities, and substance abuse programs for families, schools, adolescents and individuals. Turtle Creek Valley offers outpatient, residential, respite and day programs, case management, drug, alcohol and prevention services. Whether your concerns stem from substance abuse, depression, anxiety, phobias, trauma, divorce, ACOA, dysfunctional families, bereavement, health concerns or school problems, it helps to have the support of a professional listener and problem solver. TCV provides services to anyone regardless of ability to pay or if do not have insurance.
History:
Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, Inc. was incorporated in 1970 to provide mental health and mental retardation services in Turtle Creek Valley communities through a Model Cities Grant. Mel Haber, LSW, founding executive director, grew the agency to a Community Mental Health Center, providing a base service unit, mental health and mental retardation services. By 1981, substance abuse and children’s services were added, along with provision of services in the Steel Valley communities. In 1982, Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, Inc. received the contract to provide drug and alcohol services in the Southeastern part of Allegheny County. Through 1995, the agency continued to expand by developing an array of innovative services such as: family services; residential programs for persons with mental health/developmental disability needs; and crisis services. Through partnerships with persons Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR serves--other agencies, members of the community, government officials, foundations and other groups--the agency continues to thrive and grow. In 1998, Judy Monahan Grystar, LSW, became the executive director and has guided Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR through the fast-paced changes of today’s health care delivery systems. Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, Inc. now serves more than 19,000 individuals annually, through the efforts of nearly 300 employees Currently, Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR offers a wide range of services--with the goal of empowering individuals and families--to persons in the Western Pennsylvania area.
