Brashear Association is a community-based organization serving people in the South Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
Description:
Through its two community centers, Brashear Center on South Side and Henry Kaufmann Neighborhood House in Arlington, and its Neighborhood Employment Center, The Brashear Association provides a full spectrum of services to low income individuals and families. Working in the settlement house tradition, we combine community services with community action to build strong neighborhoods, one family at a time.
History:
The Brashear Association has served the South Pittsburgh neighborhoods and their residents since 1917. Established as a living memorial to John Alfred Brashear, Pittsburgh's renowned, self-taught scientist and astronomer, the Association originally operated a collection of settlement houses. Today, we offer the people in these communities a full spectrum of programs and services that span from infancy to old age, from community service to community action.
