A helping hand...and dinner!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 27, 2009

We welcome volunteers who enjoy cooking to come once a month or even once every other month to bring a meal or cook a meal at one of our two residential group homes. We like the cook (or cooks) (you can come with a friend) to share the meal with the household, sitting down and joining us at the table. If you want to bring your own child with you for this activity, we can work with that. We have up to 8 residents in each house - all bright and talented girls who work hard to excel academically and otherwise. One house is in Baden in Beaver County and one house is in Clinton in Allegheny County.

We require a child abuse clearance and a criminal record clearance. No training required. We prefer adults - and good cooks!

Directions:
These are the directions to the Girls Hope office (we will give directions to the houses (one in Baden, Beaver County and the other in Clinton, Findlay Township, Allegheny County, after speaking to the volunteer): From downtown: Cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge and pass the stadium. Follow signs to Route 65 North and follow through Bellevue, Sewickley, Ambridge and Baden. From I-79: Take Parkway West to I-79. Leave 79 at Exit 19 (Sewickley). Follow the ramp marked Sewickley to Route 65 North. Stay on 65 for about 12 miles, passing through the small towns of Sewickley, Leetsdale, Ambridge and Baden. After entering Baden, you will pass a Pizza Hut and a McDonalds. At the next light you'll see an ice cream stand. Immediately after the intersection, bear right onto the service road that runs parallel to Route 65. Pass Anderson's Candy and take the first right after the stop sign into the parking lot. Walk to the front of the academy building until you reach the Convent entrance (up concrete steps you'll find double wooden doors surrounded by stained glass). Push the buzzer and identify yourself as a visitor to the Girls Hope office for admittance. We will meet all visitors at the door.
Nearest Bus Stop: Beaver County Transportation Co.'s Northern Lights Shopping Center stop, 5 minutes minute walk
