LGBT Center Of SE Wisconsin
(1) To provide a safe and supportive environment through which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Racine, Kenosha and surrounding areas can access community, educational, social, and health-related services; (2) To link and work cooperatively with other area agencies and organizations working together on common causes and concerns.
Description:
The LGBT Center of SE Wisconsin, a new nonprofit organization serving Racine/Kenosha, believes that civil rights, equality and social justice should belong to everyone. We are committed to diversity, dignity, community-building, non-discrimination and empowerment for a vulnerable population in our midst that has been marginalized and, at times, treated as "lepers." Through uniquely targeted programs, activities, events, and services -- along with their attendant publicity -- the LGBT Center seeks to foster awareness, acceptance, support and synergies for sexual minority people in SE Wisconsin.
History:
The LGBT Center of SE Wisconsin was incorporated in late 2008 and applied for IRS 501(c)(3) funding at the same time. We plan to open our Center facility on April 4th with a full array of programs and activities.
