Peace Learning Circles Of Kenosha And Racine
Our mission is to promote a culture of peace through education to youth and communities. Our goal is to provide students with an exciting and fun opportunity to practice conflict resolution, peaceful living skills and gain increased environmental awareness.
Description:
Peace Learning Circles of Kenosha & Racine (PLC) offers a peace education curriculum by teaching communication, peaceful living skills and conflict resolution to youth and adults through experiential workshops. Students in 4th and 5th grade participate in a 5 hour off campus workshop. Four follow-up boosters are presented to the students to reinforce the skills they learned at the workshop. We have had a tremendous response from the schools that have participated in Peace Learning Circles. The principals and teachers have given their full support with the highest recommendations. However, this has led to a big problem: not enough volunteers to meet the demand and the need of the schools. As a result we have a waiting list of schools wanting to participate, but are unable, because we do not have enough facilitators and assistant facilitators to meet the demand. Would you like to see a more peaceful world for our children to live in? This is your chance to make a difference and have a direct impact in our schools, our community, and the world we live in. Together, we hope to make this the best program it can be, and have the biggest impact it can have!
History:
PLC is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006 through the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Center for Community Development. PLC is modeled after the Peace Learning Centers in Indianapolis and Milwaukee. We had a very successful start for the 2006 school year and had a large waiting list for the 2nd semester. We plan on holding 40 workshops for the 2007-2008 school year.
