Racine Literacy Council
The Racine Literacy Council(RLC) is a volunteer-based organization whose mission is to provide[adult] literacy programs in Racine County and to educate the community about the importance and impact of literacy.
Description:
The adult tutoring program trains volunteers to work one to one with adults who seek to learn English or improve basic literacy skills. Tutoring is provided on a individual basis, with tutors and learners meeting for two hours per week. Tutoring opportunities are available Monday - Thursday from 8:30a.m.- 8 p.m. and Friday mornings. The training of tutors is held four times a year. Please call 632-9495 for dates and times. Tutoring is offered at the RLC building in Racine and also at public ibraries throughout Racine County.
History:
The RLC Adult Literacy Program was established in 1965. The agency purchased and moved to its present location at 734 Lake Avenue in 1999. The Racine Literacy Council is supported in part by the United way of Racine County, donations, and through three fund raising events.
