The Therapeutic Recreation Department is committed to promoting a leisure lifestyle that improves social, physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning and enhances participants abilities.

Description:
The Somerset County Park Commission Therapeutic Recreation department provides year round recreation and leisure opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers assist at programs that are conducted in the evening or after school. A variety of programs are offered including, sports and games, cooking, arts and crafts, and music.

History:
The TR department began providing specialized recreation opportunities for people with disabilities in the late seventies. What started as a summer camp for children with learning disabilities has now grown to year round recreation programming for children as young as four to adults.
