Volunteers are needed to collect or organize a collection drive for necessary items for homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families in Somerset County. Items collected will be distributed as part of the Point in Time Homeless Count in late January, 2010. Needed items include: Food: easy open pre-packaged meals, individually wrapped snacks, such as granola bars, crackers, nuts and trail mix, bottled water and juices Personal items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap and deodorant, as well as feminine hygiene products Clothing items: new socks, underwear, tee shirts, sweatshirts/pants, gloves, hats, scarves and mittens Other: new towels and blankets Collections can occur at private locations such as companies, schools, faith organizations, etc. or can be public in coordination with local grocery stores. Items collected may be brought to the Somerset County United Way office at 1011 Route 22 West, 2nd floor, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 until January 28, 2009.
