The mission of Luther Home of Mercy is to provide a loving place where persons living with mental retardation and developmental disabilities are cared for and nurtured.

Through LHM campus and community ministries, quality care is given to all as the work continues....with trust in the Lord.

Description:
In the Fall of 1999, the Home introduced a program of community ministry aimed at supporting individuals in their homes with the particular services needed to help maintain and increase independence. In June 2004, two group homes opened in Northwood. Through our Community Ministries, clients are now being served in Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Wood Counties.

The Olde Toy Shoppe and Clothing Company that opened in 2001 in West Toledo closed its doors in December, 2008. In its place emerged Crossroads...a Day Habilitation Site which offers nutritional awareness, animal care, sensory zone, themed crafts, money awareness, and other activities. In the future more opportunities for residents and clients will be added.

In 2006 Luther Home of Mercy and Vail Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center created a unique equine-based day program for adults living with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. The day program stresses equine-related therapeutic riding, care of the horses, grooming, and stable care. Also available will be gardening and agricultural with culinary activities related to the crops grown, productive arts and crafts which will serve to stock the on-site gift shop and computer learning.

History:
With trust in the Lord, Luther Home of Mercy was founded in 1928 by Pastor Max Schleicher, and continues to provide a loving place where persons living with mental retardation and developmental disabilities are cared for and nurtured. A variety of Day Programs are offered based on resident needs. Dedicated staff help residents reach their potential, while at the same time residents strive hard to meet the daily challenges.
