Mountain Mentors

Mountain Mentors' mission is providing adult role models and programming to help at-risk youth make good choices.

Description:
Dedicated to:

  1. Helping young people turn their lives around

  2. Offering a prevention and rehabilitation program to troubled youth

  3. Providing adult role models who help teens set good personal goals and make good choices

  4. Providing an effective alternative for at-risk juveniles

Conceived more than 20 years ago by Rev. Everett Mills, this powerful approach to helping juveniles offers a physical challenge similar to Outward Bound, a helping hand like that of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters and a commitment of volunteers comparable to that of the Peace Corps.

Mountain Mentors was formed as a mission program that offers adult role models who will also serve as advocates for teens in the areas of education, work, family and court. Coupled with a wilderness experience, this year long mentoring program helps young people see themselves and society in a more positive light, shows them a bigger and better world, and offers unwavering love. History:
White Mountain
Expedition
All of our students participate in a one-week backpacking trip in the summer. From our base camp on the Maine-New Hampshire border, mentors and youth are challenged both physically and emotionally.

Mentors

Community volunteers touch the lives of troubled youth by using their life experiences and becoming role models. Each mentor serves a full year, receiving special training, then engaging in weekly and monthly activities and serving as an advocate for his or her teen.

Community Impact

This program assists the court system and other community efforts to address the problems of certain youth. It partners with families, teachers, and social agencies in bolstering positive support for at risk youth.
