Agency Details:
Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network's (WIHN) mission is to provide shelter, meals, case management and educational services to homeless families in addition to promoting action and awareness in the community regarding homelessness. WIHN is dedicated to ending homelessness. Our vision is one of restoring hope and dignity to a stigmatized population barely surviving on the margins of society. We believe that a healthy family is one that maintains permanent housing, is sufficiently fed, has gainful employment and supports its members emotionally. In providing for those most basic needs, we are assisting families in regaining respect for both themselves and gaining respect from those in the community, strengthening bonds between people within our neighborhoods and cities. We envision a society in which all members contribute and are content with stability and connections in their lives.
Description:
The specific purpose of WIHN is to provide temporary stability to homeless families as they work toward permanent independence. WIHN promotes a sense of community and self-worth, and assists families in learning the skills necessary to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. WIHN provides a fulfilling opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of families in our neighborhood. The teamwork of the churches and dedication of volunteers are key to the success of the WIHN program.
History:
WIHN is a private, non-profit agency that responds to the needs of homeless families. Opening its doors in 1994, WIHN has developed into a multi-faceted program addressing homelessness and its causes. WIHN was incorporated in September of 1993 and began providing services to homeless families on July 1, 1994. To date, WIHN has provided shelter, meals and resource oriented case management to over 900 families. 86% of WIHN families complete the program and successfully move into housing.
