Agency Details:
Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign Of NC
The mission of the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of NC (APPCNC) is to support North Carolina Communities in preventing adolescent pregnancy through Advocacy, Collaboration and Education (ACE). Teen pregnancy is the single largest factor that contributes to female and child poverty. APPCNC provides a variety of services in Durham, Orange and Wake counties including: -APPCNC encourages "Parents to talk to their kids about sex - everybody else is!" APPCNC has resources for parents to start this important and ongoing conversation. -APPCNC also provides training, guidance and resources for professionals, healthcare providers and volunteers who work with youth to ensure that they are implementing effective programs and providing accurate information. 56 teens (5 in the Triangle) become pregnant each day in North Carolina, there is no time to waste on programs that don't work. -APPCNC also advocates for state and local policies that facilitate teen pregnancy prevention initiatives.
Description:
APPCNC is the only state wide organization working to reduce teen pregnancy in North Carolina. The agency will be 25 years old in 2010 and was begun by a nurse who was concerned about children having children. The agency began as a coalition along with the United Way of NC but has since become a campaign leading the way for teen pregnancy reduction.
