Berkeley County Even Start Program's mission is to help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by improving educational opportunities of the nation's low-income families by integrating early childhood education, adult literacy or adult basic education, and parenting education.
Description:
We provide childcare classes for infants, toddlers, and 2-year-olds while their parents are receiving adult education (GED, ESOL-English speakers of other languages.) We also provide parenting classes weekly, and our early childhood teachers conduct home visit once a month. Parents who enroll and are excepted must meet certain guidelines including low income, low literacy level, limited English proficiency, and multiply children.
History:
The Even Start program is a federally grant funded program that started 8 years ago. The program has served many families in the tricounty area to better their education and learn parenting strategies.
