Pajama Program, founded in 2001, is a 501 (c) (3) national children’s charity. The Pajama Program's mission is to provide new, warm pajamas and books to needy children nationwide, many waiting and hoping to be adopted. Too often, these youngsters have been abused or abandoned and in most cases, have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a loving mother or father tuck them in at bedtime. By contributing to a warmer and more nurturing environment when they are at their most vulnerable, the Pajama Program gives them a sense of love and belonging. Pajama Program has provided more than 190,000 new pajamas and 90,000 new books to children in need to date.
Description:
The Pajama Program provides new, warm pajamas and books to children in need in the Charleston area, the United States and around the world, many who are waiting and hoping to be adopted. These are youngsters who may not know the comforts of a mother or father to tuck them into a cozy bed and read them a bedtime story. Too many have been abandoned, most deprived of any love at all. The Charleston Area chapter works with Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Crisis Ministries, Winwood Farms, Eagle Harbor, and HALOS.
History:
The Pajama Program started with personal contributions from founders Genevieve Piturro, her friend Alice Quirk, and their friends and relatives. The program has grown nationwide and now receives contributions from generous supporters and fund raising events across the country. Across America Pajama Program works with various agencies to provide new pajamas and books to children in need and children waiting to be placed in a permanent home.
