The mission of Sangaree Elementary School is to involve students, parents, staff, and community in the personalized development of each student, preparing them for productive lives through diverse learning strategies and developing each child’s potential in a safe and positive environment.
Description:
Sangaree Elementary serves a diverse community in the Sangaree/Summerville area of Berkeley County. We serve students in K4 to second grades. Our student population of 840 has an ethnic composition of 75% white, 21% African-American and 4% other. Fifty percent receive free or reduced lunch. Student mobility is high with over 100 students enrolling and leaving in a year. Our attendance area is experiencing tremendous growth with several new subdivisions and apartments opening in the area.
History:
Sangaree opened in 1979 as a K5 to 5th grade school. In 1986 a new school was built and the 4th and 5th grades moved to Sangaree Intermediate. In 2004 with the opening of a Middle school our 3rd grade shifted to the Intermediate school.
