Alston Wilkes Society
Our mission is "Rebuilding lives for a safer community." Our vision is to provide offenders, former offenders, the homeless, troubled youth, veterans, and their families the tools they need to become productive citizens.
Description:
Our agency works with offenders, ex-offenders, their families, those at risk. The Alston Wilkes Society goes into the prison systems and sees clients one-on-one to assist them in realistic release plans. Alston Wilkes also provides various workshops within the prison system. Once released, ex-offenders are assessed and assisted with transition to the community through case management, employment assistance and counseling, housing assistance, transportation, food, clothing and appropriate referrals to other community resources.
History:
Founded as the SC Therapeutic Association in 1962 by the Reverend Eli Alston Wilkes (a Methodist minister), the Alston Wilkes Society's original mission was to provide rehabilitative services to adults released from correctional facilities in SC. The name was changed to honor the Reverend Eli Alston Wilkes when he passed away. For 44 years, our agency has expanded its focus to include troubled youth, homeless individuals, offenders, homeless veterans and the families of these groups of people.
