Last updated on August 20, 2008

East Cooper Meals on Wheels is an
organization whose primary role is to deliver nutritious midday meals to those in need, regardless of age or economic status. Additionally, ECMOW advocates on behalf of its recipients when their needs exceed the scope of services.

Description:
East Cooper Meals on Wheels recipients are generally homebound people of any age who are unable to prepare their own midday meals.

ECMOW serves residents of Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Cainhoy and Wando. Referrals can be made by physicians, social service agencies, hospitals, clergy, relatives, and by prospective recipients themselves. To determine eligibility, prospective clients are interviewed in their homes. Individuals who are accepted are served promptly. ECMOW does not have a waiting list for service.

East Cooper Meals on Wheels provides meals at no cost to recipients and is funded entirely by gifts from the community. ECMOW serves over 200 people a day and delivers over 70,000 meals a year. It costs ECMOW $760 to serve one person for one year.

If you or someone you know is in need of our service, please call our office at 881 - 9350 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon - Thurs and from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Fri.

History:
Founded in 1985, ECMOW is a growing nonprofit organization of over 200 volunteers. These caring volunteers donate their time and use their personal vehicles to pack and deliver meals to recipients each weekday.

Community involvement in our mission is extensive. It includes community service groups, church groups, business groups, social organizations and schools.
