TeenLine is a free counseling and information service by and for teens. TeenLine responds to thousands of calls each year from youth with emotional and interpersonal problems through its telephone listening service. We are staffed by volunteer high school students who have completed an extensive 35-hour training program. Real Teens. Real Life. Real Help.
Description:
TeenLine addresses important issues including suicide prevention, drug use, child abuse, depression, school pressure, peer pressure, family issues, relationships, etc, through both the telephone helpline and community outreach presentations at schools and youth groups throughout the Tri-County area. TeenLine services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. Callers never have to share their names, and volunteers use first names only. Volunteers never pass judgment, share personal information or opinions. Youth counselors are available to help the callers help themselves. If a volunteer is not able to help she/he is equipped with numerous community resources to provide the caller with any information they may need. TeenLine operates Monday through Friday from 4 - 8 pm. If help is needed outside these hours, our parent organization, 2-1-1 Hotline, is there to answer calls and provide support. 2-1-1 Hotline volunteers have undergone the same extensive training and are able to provide the same caring ear as TeenLine volunteers.
History:
TeenLine is a Trident United Way program established in 1990 in order to provide teens in our community with a place to talk about the numerous stressors they face everyday.
