The mission of the Lowcountry Food Bank is to feed the hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing healthy food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor and by educating the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger.

Description:
Our vision is to eliminate hunger and its causes in the South Carolina Lowcountry by creating a network of food security, becoming the catalyst for a just social policy and partnering with local agencies to build strong communities.

To provide a network of food security, we plan to increase our distribution to 14.4 million pounds a year by 2005. We will supply nutritious food to 400+ nonprofit organizations who are efficiently meeting the needs of their communities. We will create a food safety network where a hungry person is never further than five miles from a source of good, nutritious food.

The key to ending hunger is partnering with local agencies to build strong communities from the inside out. In building a network of local agencies to deal with the root causes of hunger and poverty, we will strengthen the community and bring together those who have the ability and knowledge to solve the problem of hunger at the local level.

History:
The Lowcountry Food Bank was founded in 1983 and is a private, nonprofit, central clearinghouse for donated, nutritious, marketable surplus food and food products. Since our inception, we have escalated to serving over 400+ agencies through the ten coastal counties of South Carolina.
