Through an environment that offers help, hope, and healing, our mission is to provide therapeutic interventions that enhance social functioning and strengthen psychological well-being for at-risk youth and their families traumatized by the effects of abuse and neglect. By following our mission we envision that children will be successful and productive members of society.
Description:
We are a long-term therapeutic residential program for young boys ages 5-16. A number of different forms of experiential therapies, such as equine assisted learning, animal assisted learning, outdoor education and environmental studies, and the use of a challenge course, are utilized in conjunction with traditional forms of treatment. Clinicians focus on anger management techniques, family dynamics, personal responsibility, and developing new attitudes and coping skills. Because Windwood Farm also believes that every child has the ability to learn, a education center is housed on our property. With access to resources, materials and tools that fit their needs and learning styles, each child has a unique opportunity to achieve success in their academic endeavors.
History:
In 1985, Windwood Farm was established as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalizations by local businessman, Joseph L. Tamsberg, Jr. Over the past 20 years our agency has grown from a home for 6 boys on 50 acres, to a 110 acre campus that now houses twenty-eight boys, ages five through sixteen,in three residential homes, a schoolhouse, a working farm, and an environmental education center.
