Tricounty Family Ministries is a Christian ministry whose mission is to provide a framework for ecumenical, cooperative voluntary action to serve persons in need.
Description:
Tricounty Family Ministries is a nonprofit, ecumenical agency providing food, clothing, medical care, counseling, transportation, shelter and other vital services to the less fortunate in the greater Charleston area. Two specific programs of our agency are the Healing Hands Ministries, which provides assistance for obtaining prescription drugs, low-cost physician visits, and other medical needs, and the Families in Transition program, which provides shelter and counseling for families in crisis.
History:
Tricounty Family Ministries, a division of Lutheran Social Services, was founded in 1983 by area Lutheran churches as a soup kitchen. During the past 21 years our ministry has grown into a true non-denominational effort, currently supported by over 36 Christian and Jewish congregations in the Tricounty area. Over time we've also expanded services to meet other serious needs in the community, which go far beyond feeding the hungry. By remaining in one of the poorer neighborhoods of North Charleston, we've been able to reach the neediest people - the lost and forgotten - where they are.
