We are a rural town in Berkeley county with a population of less than 2000. We have begun to redesign our community, in hopes of raising our economic standing. We want to target our historic sites that are in need of restoration and preservation.
It is our hope that by working as a community we will have a greater opportunity for federal and state grants to help with our economic revitalization. In the past five years we have created a preservation ordinance, formed a preservation board and developed a historic inventory of our community.
History:
The town of St. Stephen was incorporated in the 1870's. The town developed around the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church which was founded in 1754. Our community was first known as St. Stephen Parish.
