Help Children: Become a Child Advocate

The child advocate position is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers who enjoy working with children. These volunteers spend time with the children in our waiting area by playing games, making crafts, and reading stories. Child advocates receive training at a special volunteer orientation session held by the DNLCC staff that provides information on child abuse as well as confidentiality issues.

Child advocate volunteers need to attend a volunteer orientation session. A background check is also required

Abused / Battered  Families / Parents
Adolescents (13-17)  Infants / Preschoolers (0-4)
Children (5-12)  Young Adults (18-25)

Directions:

 The DNLCC is located at 1061 King Street in Charleston, a few blocks north of the King Street Palace. We are situated between the Dart County Library and a Food Lion, and across the street from Port City Paper. The building is one-story red brick building. Parking is available in the Food Lion parking lot. Specific directions from the North Area, West Ashley, and East Cooper follow: I-26 Eastbound (from the North Area) Take the Morrison Drive/ East Bay Exit (219B) off I-26. At the bottom of the exit, turn left onto Mt. Pleasant and go to the signal light. Turn right at the signal light onto King Street. We are about 8 short blocks down on the right side of ttthe road. Highway 17-N/ Crosstown (from West Ashley) Follow the Crosstown (HWY 17-N). Take I-26 towards Columbia/North Charleston. Exit at #220 Romney Street. Turn left onto Romney Street. At signal light, turn left onto King Street. We are on the right side of the road, one building before Food Lion. From 17-S (Mt. Pleasant) Cross over the bridge (either bridge) and take the Meeting Street exit. Turn right onto Meeting Street. At the first signal light make a left. Turn right onto King Street. We are on the left side of the road, one building past Food Lion Shopping Center.
