Davis County Youth And Families With Promise
Youth and Families with Promise (YFP) is an early intervention/prevention mentoring program for at risk youth, ages 10 to 14. Our goal is to improve academic performance, increase interpersonal competence, and strengthen family bonds.
Description:
YFP is a mentoring program developed by the Utah State University Extension/4-H program. The program works with youth, families and communities throughout Utah. Youth are matched with mentors who serve as role models. The entire family is involved in structured activities including 4-H, and a once-a-month family activity. Mentors spend 1 to 2 hours per week with youth located near them.
History:
The YFP program began in Iron County in 1994, with funding from the Utah Board on Juvenile Justice (OJJDP Block Grant Funds). It has been continually refined and strengthened since then, and is now offered in most of Utah's counties.
