Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties - Layton

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties partners with low-income families to help them build, and then buy, their own homes. Our "partner families" are selected from among those families who earn just 25-50% of median income, and who do not qualify for home ownership with either conventional mortgage lenders or most other housing assistance programs. Habitat homes are not fancy; instead, they are simple, basic, decent, safe, and affordable. They are built largely with donated construction materials, money, and labor. Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away program. We aim to provide "a hand up, not a hand out." Our partner families contribute hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" to help build their own homes alongside volunteers. When the construction is completed, Habitat families buy their homes at no-profit prices and with no-interest loans provided by Habitat.

History:
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) was founded in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. Former-President Jimmy Carter and former-First Lady Roslyn Carter are two of the more well-known Habitat volunteers. Since 1976, over 200,000 Habitat homes have been built throughout the world. These homes now shelter over 1 million people.

Our local Weber and Davis Counties affiliate of HFHI builds homes for families within Weber and Davis Counties. During 2004, with the generous support of local donors and volunteers, we built one new home and renovated a second home. Both homes were located in Ogden, Weber County. During 2005-2006, we built one new home in Layton in Davis County. We will soon begin renovation of two older homes in Ogden.
