The mission of The Children's Assessment Center is to provide a professional, compassionate and coordinated approach to the treatment of sexually abused children and their families and to serve as an advocate
for all children in our community.

Description:
As a collaboration of Harris County Commissioners Court and The Children's Assessment Center Foundation, The Center represents a true partnership between the public and private sectors for the most effective service delivery to children and families. Located at 2500 Bolsover, our $10.5 million, 53,000 square-foot, state–of–the-art facility was specifically designed to provide an environment that will meet each child’s need for warmth, support and protection.

The Children's Assessment Center is a member of the National Children’s Alliance and part of a national movement to create child-friendly intervention systems for sexually abused children. The CAC is the largest of its kind in the nation.

The Children's Assessment Center houses professionals from 39 partner agencies, which include law enforcement, a medical school, a psychological/psychiatric school and governmental investigative entities, all with the common goal of protecting children.

History:
The Children's Assessment Center was originally established in 1991 under the umbrella of Harris County Children's Protective Services to provide enhanced services to sexually abused children. The Children’s Assessment Center Foundation Board of Directors was established in February 1995. In September 1995, Children’s Protective Services merged into the Harris County structure. In an effort to protect the integrity of the private/public partnership, The Children’s Assessment Center was established, as its own County department in November of that same year. None of The Center’s board members receive monies for the services they provide.

Through an agreement between Harris County Commissioners Court and The Children’s Assessment Center Foundation, the operating budget for The Center is divided equally between the two partners. The public sector funding is allocated through Harris County Commissioner’s Court. The private sector funding is cultivated through The Children’s Assessment Center Foundation via grants from foundations and corporations, contributions made by private donations and individual donors, and various fundraising events.
