Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 13, 2009

Since 1970, volunteers have answered Crisis Hotline 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Join this legacy of volunteering at one of the largest Hotlines in the country. To prepare you for this experience, your crisis intervention skills are assessed and you are provided study-at-home, classroom, and hands-on training. From a database of over 5,500 resources, volunteers are able to refer callers to agencies and services that meet their needs. Volunteers schedule to work four-hours shifts for one year following their training. As Riley, a three-year telephone volunteer says, "Being a Crisis Hotline volunteer means being in a win/win situation. I help others and I feel good about myself for being available.

Teenline volunteers, between the ages of 15-19, are offered the same intensive training as adult volunteers. Operating after-school and on the weekends, Teenline volunteers are afforded a unique opportunity to provide confidential assistance to peers in crisis.

Spanish Hotline volunteers assist callers who are most comfortable expressing themselves in Spanish. Bi-lingual volunteers can choose to answer both Crisis Hotline and Spanish Hotline.
