"Friendly visitors" in nursing homes are volunteers who have had some basic training in nursing home regulations (from Cenla AAA). They visit their selected nursing home(s) on a regular basis, and contact the nursing home ombudsmen at Cenla AAA if there is a problem. Friendly visitors are not expected to resolve problems, but to notify the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) if there is a problem. Nursing home residents think of the "visitors" as friends, and come to depend on them as a link to the community. Friendly visitors must complete a training course offered by Cenla AAA and agree to make nursing home visits on a regular basis (preferably at least once every two weeks. Visits should be at least two hours in length, and as many residents as possible should be seen on every visit. This opportunity is sponsored by: Cenla Area Agency On Aging, Inc.
