This Thanksgiving, skip the post-turkey rush to the malls. There’s a great way you can show your community you care and spend quality time with the people you care about without spending a cent. Harvest of Hope is an Alternative Thanksgiving weekend. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, we will work on rebuilding projects to help families whose homes were affected by the 2008 floods. Participating as a group is a great way to spend time with the people you care about, and the work you do brings hope to the people of Cedar Rapids. Individuals and groups of all sizes and skill levels are encouraged to come out and join the fun, but all volunteers must be over age 14. If you’re interested in registering to participate, contact the Community Recovery Center at 319.540.4810. Or, if you’re interested in helping to prepare and serve lunch to volunteers on either of these days, contact Casey Westlake at casey.vrc@gmail.com.
Volunteers can be of any age, depending upon their ability, but they need to be over 14 to participate in rebuilding efforts, under 14 volunteers will be doing other things such as serving food, clean up, etc. This opportunity is sponsored by: East Central Iowa Volunteer Center
