Docents are the premier connections between the exhibitions of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and the visiting public. The interest and excitement Docents can stimulate within a visitor can build positive long-term relationships between these patrons, the creative world, and the CRMA specifically. We rely on our docents to succeed and we do everything we can to support these ambassadors of knowledge and goodwill because Docents make the museum experience come alive and be truly meaningful! Perks of becoming a Docent: · Involvement in our accredited museum and with our community · Engaging visitors with the excitement of the visual arts · Ability to experience exhibitions first-hand and often before the public with tours given by the outstanding CRMA curator · Attending special museum events such as exhibition openings and museum lectures · Opportunity to learn about and share information and personal experience about the museum and its exhibits with visitors and each other · Meet new people, learn about art and enjoy friendships of others who share your interests · Opportunity to learn about and share information and personal experience as a cultural ambassador for the museum · 20% off all Museum shop merchandise
Requirements of every Docent: · An ability to communicate and interact with others · A love of learning and for sharing information · An appreciation for art, artists and history · A willingness to build on the knowledge you already possess and to learn about new things · Being flexible in accommodating the needs of the museum · Being yourself and developing your own tour-conducting style through team touring, study, and practice · Being enthusiastic and creative in your interactions with tour groups Additional Requirements: · Attend and participate in the docent training program, following initial orientation · Volunteer 20 calendar dates per year to lead visitor tours (tours typically last just one hour,) support Family Day activities or help with other special events.
