The Mission of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is to work with residents, families, and staff of facilities to improve the care, the lives, and the environment of residents through the dedication and support of certified ombudsman volunteers.
Description:
The Nursing Home Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program trains and certifies volunteers through Department of Elder Affairs; to investigate and help resolve concerns of elderly residents of long-term care facilities. Ombudsman also provide information and refer nursing and rest home residents and their families to community resources. The Ombudsman program operates out of BayPath Elder Services,INC. in Marlborough,Ma.
History:
Massachusetts Long-Term Care Ombudsman program was one of the first pilot programs established in 1973. By 1977, the state embraced the improved pilot program, as an initiative and a more effective way to serve the over 61,000 residents living in nursing homes in the state.The State Long-Term Care Ombudsman program began to develop local offices and train volunteer Ombudsman staff focusing in complaint resolution.
