Help Bring Our Youth into the 21st Century

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 17, 2009

Framingham Public Schools' 21st Century afterschool and summer programs help level the playing field for low income and minority youth who may struggle to keep pace with peers who have more resources. We need your help so our students can achieve even more. Volunteers make a minimum six week commitment to work the same day each week for one hour with our middle school students or 1.5 hours with our elementary students.

For more information and to apply, please contact:
Sybil Schlesinger: 508 626-9115 sschlesinger@framingham.k12.ma.us
Volunteer Coordinator, 21st Century Community Learning Centers,
Framingham Public Schools

Regular Duties:
Club Partners: Club Partners work with a classroom teacher to develop and run a 12-week enrichment club or to provide a specific activity during the course of a club. If you have a professional skill or hobby you think would intrigue our middle or elementary school students, please consider this option. All enrichment clubs must be fun and engaging. Students choose from a menu of clubs and their participation is voluntary. Middle school clubs incorporate a mathematics component; elementary clubs include a vocabulary enrichment component. Our classroom teachers would ensure this requirement is met. If you have an idea for a club or activity, please contact us. Volunteer Club Partners make a significant and much appreciated contribution to the growth of our students.

Hours:
This fall, our afterschool programs run Monday-Thursday, begin on October 5th, and end on January 21st. Our spring activities run February 22-May 20th. Four week summer sessions usually run during the month of July.

A brief training will be provided at the time of interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
SITE:
As stated above, our afterschool programs run at four sites, the three middle schools and Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.
